Posted by The Jerusalem Mail on Thursday, September 08, 2018 07:07:18Israel is set to unveil a new policy aimed at curbing violent attacks against Palestinians.
According to a statement, “the government is working with the United Nations to create an initiative to combat violence against the Palestinian people.”
The new plan will involve “ensuring that the media in the occupied territories and the occupied West Bank are free from threats, intimidation and harassment.”
The policy is meant to encourage journalists to “exercise their rights” to cover events and “ensure that violence is not a major factor” in the reporting.
It will also be “working with other parties to strengthen the institutions to combat the violent attacks, including by strengthening media monitoring and investigative institutions.”
It will involve the creation of a new media advisory committee to ensure that the public has access to the information.
It comes a day after Israel said it will increase security at the West Bank settlements.
